RESOLUTION NO. 4981
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON APPROVING THE EXECUTION OF A SECOND
AMENDMENT OF A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF
VERNON ANDMEDEVAC, INC., FOR PARAMEDIC
SERVICES
6 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon approved
7 the Agreement For Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Paramedic
8 Services and Use of Vehicle Equipment and Facilities on
9 February 21, 1978, pursuant to Resolution No. 4538; and
10 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon
11 approved an Amendment and Renewal of Agreement for Mobile
12 Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Paramedic Services and Use of Vehicle
13 Equipment and Facilities on December 16, 1980, pursuant to
14 Resolution No. 4759; and
15 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon
16 authorized Bruce V. Malkenhorst, City Administrator/City Clerk to
17 negotiate a second amendment of the agreement with Medevac, Inc.
18 for paramedic services; and
19 WHEREAS, a change in the monthly service fee to
20 Thirteen Thousand Two Hundred Eighty-Seven Dollars ($13,287.00)
21 was provided for by Resolution No. 4659 adopted on July 17, 1979;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon
24 authorized an increase in the monthly minimum fee to Eighteen
25 Thousand Seven Hundred Fifty-Three Dollars ($18,753.00) less
26 billings collected on behalf of the City of Vernon by Medevac,
27 Inc. by Resolution No. 4749 adopted on August 5, 1980; and
28 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
1 adopted a Vernon Minimum Fee Schedule for paramedic services by
2 Minute Order on September 16, 1980; and
3 WHEREAS, Medevac has proposed reducing the 1982-1983
4 subsidy with a small reduction in service to One Hundred Twenty-
5 Five Thousand Four Hundred Forty-Four Dollars ($125,444.00) by
6 allowing the City Unit to answer billable calls outside the City
7 between the hours of 6: 00 p. m. and 6 :00 a. m.; the City Unit would
8 remain dedicated during the day when Medevac records show that
9 seventy-seven percent (77%) of the present call volume occurs;
10 and
11 wHEREAS, Bruce V.Malkenhorst, City Administrator/City
12 Clerk by letter dated January 11, 1983 to the Finance Committee
13 has recommended the extension of the agreement with Medevac, Inc.
14 with an amendment to reflect a reduction in the level of service
15 for the purpose of reducing costs with the condition that if
16 the Medevac proposal proves unacceptable, that service at the
17 current level can be quickly restored; and
18 WHEREAS, the Finance Committee approved said
19 recommendation on March 7, 1983.
20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
21 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
22 SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
23 hereby determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are
24 true and correct.
25 SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
26 does hereby approve the Second Amendment to the Agreement For
27 Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Paramedic Services and Use of
28 Vehicle Equipment and Facilities, a copy of which has been

1 presented to the City Council concurrently with this Resolution
2 and the City Council hereby orders said Agreement to be received
3 and filed by the City Clerk.

SECTION 3: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
5 does hereby determine that the Second Amendment to the Agreement
6 For Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Paramedic Services and Use
7 of Vehicle Equipment and Facilities is approved and the Mayor is
8 hereby authorized to execute said Amendment for, and on behalf of,
9 the City Council of the City of Vernon.
SECTION 4: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
11 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon
12 and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
13 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 22nd day of March, 1983.
