RESOLUTION NO. 4994
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR ASSEMBLY
BILL 1376 AND URGING THE MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE
TO PASS SAID BILL
6 WHEREAS, the Southern California Rapid Transit District
7 (SCRTD) was created by state legislation in 1964 from the Los
8 Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, a public corporation
9 created in 1957; and
10 WHEREAS, the SCRTD has experienced five strikes in the
11 last ten years and ~hese work stoppages have had significant
12 economic, social and environmental impacts on the community; and
13 WHEREAS, last November the people of Los Angeles County
14 overwhelmingly voiced their opinion by voting in favor of

Proposition B, an advisory measure to recommend that SCRTD
employees be prohibited from striking; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1376 introduced by Assembl~yoman
La Follette on March 2, 1983, would legislatively enforce this
mandate of the people by prohibiting the employees of the SCRTD
from participating in any strike or other concerted action to
withhold their services; and
WHEREAS, support of Assembly Bill 1376 would be in the

best interests of the City of Vernon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
27 expresses its strong support to Assembly Bill 1376 and urges
28 the members of the legislature to pass said bill.

SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
2 is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to each
3 legislative representative of the City of Vernon.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
5 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon
6 and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
7 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of May, 1983.
