Resolution No. 5017 1 2 3 4 5 6 RESOLUTION NO. 5017 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON A}fENDING SECTION 2 AND SECTION 4.2.1 OF RESOLUTION NO. 4668 AS A}fENDED BY RESOLUTION NO. 4816 RESPECTING VACATION POLICIES FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT THEREWITH 7 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon adopted 8 Resolution No. 4668 on August 23, 1979, as amended by Resolution 9 No. 4816 adopted on June 30, 1981, to provide vacation policies 10 for employees in the City of Vernon; and 11 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires 12 to amend Section 2 and Section 4.2.1. of Resolution No. 4668 as 13 amended by Resolution No. 4816, to provide that the vacation 14 policies for certain employees of the City of Vernon be improved. 15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF 16 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS: 17 SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon 18 does hereby amend Section 2 of Resolution No. 4668 to read as 19 follows: 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 "Section 2: That each employee of the City except those specifically mentioned in Section 1, Section 4 and Section 6 of this Resolution, shall be entitled to ten (10) working days vacation during the second year of said service and each year thereafter at full pay. Permanent, full-time employees, except those specifically mentioned in Section 1, Section 4 and Section 6 of this Resolution, who have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 completed five (5) years of continuous service, shall be granted twelve (12) working, days annual vacation leave with pay. Permanent, full-time employees, excrept those specifically mentioned in Section 1, Section 4 and Section 6 of this Resolution, who have completed ten (10) years of continuous service, shall be granted fifteen (15) working days annual vacation leave with pay. This section shall apply but not be limited to employees of the Police Department, Water Department and miscellaneous employees of the Fire Department, as defined by the Public Employees Retirement System of the City of Vernon, who have or receive the time-off benefits of regular legal holidays. The vacation benefits for all approved employees who work a four (4) day work week in accordance with Section 9 of Resolution No. 5018, are provided for herein as follows: 2.1. That each such employee of the City shall be entitled to eight (8) working days vacation during the second year of said service and each year thereafter at full pay. 2.2. That each such permanent, full-time employee who has completed five (5) years of continuous service shall be granted ten (10) wo~king days annual vacation leave with pay. -2- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 2.3. That each such permanent, full-time employee who has completed ten (10) years of continuous service shall be granted twelve (12) working days annual vacation leave with pay. 2.4. That each such permanent, full-time employee who has completed fifteen (15) years of continuous service shall be granted sixteen (16) working days annual vacation leave with pay. Employees entitled to sixteen (16) working days annual vacation leave with pay, may not take more than twelve (12) working days at any one time. The only exception to the above policy is that a Department Head may, for good reason, in his discretion, authorize an eligible employee to take all sixteen (16) working days at the same time. It is the intention of the City Council that the four (4) additional working days granted to eligible employees be taken at some time other than the normal or regular vacation period so that it will be unnecessary to employ additional personnel during vacation periods and that the additional four (4) working days be taken any time during the calendar year that is satisfactory to the Department Head. 2.5. That approved employees participating in said four (4) day work week shall not receive the benefit of holidays falling on a Friday or Saturday but shall receive the benefit of -3- .. 1 2 3 holidays falling on Sunday by celebrating said holidays on the following Monday." Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon 4 does hereby amend Section 4.2.1. of Resolution No. 4668, as 5 amended by Resolution No. 4816, to read as follows: 6 7 8 9 10 "4.2.1. After completion of one (1) year or more years of continuous service, but less than ten (10) years-thirteen (13) twenty- four (24) hour shifts." SECTION 3: That in all other particulars, Resolution 11 No. 4668, as amended by Resolution No. 4816, shall remain in full 12 force and effect and any resolution not consistent with or in 13 conflict with this Resolution is hereby repealed. 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 SECTION 4: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in'fu11 force and effect.
