RESOLUTION NO. 5023
A RESOLUTION. OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON COMMENDING ARTHUR E. NELSON FOR HIS
MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE CITY
OF VERNON
6 HHEREAS,ARTHUR'E. :NELSON commenced employment with
7 the City of Vernon on August 17, 1953, as a Junior Civil
8 Engineer; and
9 ~VHEREAS, ARTHUR E. NELSON advanced to Assistant Engineer
10 on July 16, 1955, Associate Engineer on February 1, 1956, City
11 Engineer on May 12, 1985, Assistant Director of Public Works on
12 July 1, 1970 and, in recognition of his outstanding qualities
13 and efforts in said position, ARTHUR E. NELSON was appointed
14 Director of Public Works on March 1, 1973, and was subsequently
15 appointed Director of Public Works IBuilding on July 1, 1979 and
16 Director of Community Services on July 1, 1981; and
17 WHEREAS, ARTHUR E. NELSON has elected to retire and
18 has submitted his resignation to the City Council to be effective
19 on August 31, 1983; and
20 WHEREAS, said resignation has been accepted by this
21 Council with regret; and
22 WHEREAS, ARTHURE. NELSON has served the people of the
23 City of Vernon with distinction throughout his service therein;
24 and
25 WHEREAS,from the time of his employment to the date of
26 his retirement, ARTHUR E. NELSON has faithfully served in a
27 conscientious and capable manner as an employee of the City of
28 Vernon for thirty (30) years and his loss will be

1 deeply felt; and
2 WHEREAS, the competence, ability, loyalty and
3 outstanding service by the said ARTHUR E. NELSON for more than
4 thirty (30) years to the City of Vernon is gratefully
5 acknowledged; and
6 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon,
7 individually, collectively and on behalf of the people of the
8 City of Vernon, desires to extend its best wishes to ARTHUR E.
9 NELSON upon his retirement and reaffirm its appreciation and
10 gratitude to ARTHUR E. NELSON for his outstanding years of
11 service.
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
13 OF THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
14
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
15 takes this opportunity to commend ARTHUR E. NELSON for his many
16 years of outstanding service to the City of Vernon.
17
SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
18 wishes ARTHUR E. NELSON continued success in whatever endeavors
19 he may undertake.
20
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
21 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and present a
22 certified copy thereof to MR. ARTHUR E. NELSON, and that there-
23 upon and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
