RESOLUTION NO. 5036
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4028 TO
ESTABLISH RESTRICTIONS RESPECTING THE
EMPLOYMENT OF MARRIED INDIVIDUALS WORKING
IN THE SAME DEPAR~mNT
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Vernon adopted
Resolution No. 4028 on January 19, 1971, which restricted the
employment of related individuals and specifically prohibited
the employment of a spouse of an existing employee; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds it necessary to specifically declare its intention as it
pertains to the employment of two employees who marry while
currently employed by the City of Vernon; and
WHEREAS, said policy is not intended in any way to
limit employment because of race, color, creed, sex, or national
origin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: Section 1 of Resolution No. 4028 shall be
20 amended to read as follows:

"Section 1: That no spouse of an
employee of the City of Vernon shall be
employed by the City of Vernon within the
same department and in the event that
existing employees working in the same
department become married, one spouse
will be required to resign or may transfer
to a different department if such transfer
, .

is in the best interests of the City."
SECTION 2: That in all other respects, Resolution No.
3 4028 shall remain in full force and effect and that the
4 provisions in Resolution No. 4028 not consistent with or in
5 conflict with this Resolution are hereby repealed.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
7 is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Resolution
8 and thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force
9 and effect.
