RESOLUTION NO. 5129
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON COMMENDING AND HONORING ROBERT H.
PHILIBOSIAN, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF LOS
ANGELES COUNTY, FOR HIS SERVICE IN SUPPORT
OF THE PEOPLE AND CITIES IN THE LOS ANGELES
COUNTY AREA
6 WHEREAS, Robert H. Philibosian took office as the 37th
7 District Attorney of Los Angeles County on January 3.1983.
8 and directs the largest local prosecuting agency in the world~
9 and
10 WHEREAS, the successful operation of local government
11 for the benefit of the residents of the cities in Los Angeles
12 County depend upon the concerned leadership of civic minded
13 persons; and
14 WHEREAS, nowhere has such community awareness been more
15 evident than with Robert H. Philibosian who has been supportive
16 of many civic and nonprofit organizations and a member of. the
17 Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Peace Officers
18 Association, the California District Attorneys Association, the
19 National District Attorneys Association, the Los Angeles County
20 Criminal Justice Group and many other county and statewide law
21 enforcement committees; and
22 WHEREAS. Mr. Philibosian has consistently made the issue
23 of juvenile crime, gang violence, drug trafficking, drunk
24 driving and willful failure to pay child support as priorities
25 while he has been in office; and
26 WHEREAS, Mr. Philibosian joined the Los Angeles
27 District Attorney's Office in 1968 and was the Head Deputy-in-
28 Charge of the Van Nuys Office when he resigned in 1979 to join

the Attorney General's Office as Chief Assistant Attorney General
for the Criminal Law Division and was appointed California Chief
Deputy Attorney General in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Philibosian has by his sincere and
dedicated service to his profession served as an exemplar for
his friends and adversaries alike; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon
individually, collectively and on behalf of the people of the
City of Vernon wish to commend Robert H. Philibosian for his
high personal dedication to his profession and the people of
the County of Los Angeles as evidenced by his long and out-
standing service to the corru:nunity and wish to invite public
notice of his contributions and achievements and to also extend
congratulations to his wife, Nancy, and their two children, Janet
and Robert.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOL~OWS:
SECTION 1: 'rhat the City Council of the City of Vernon
wishes to take this opportunity to commend and honor Robert H.
Philibosian.for his distinguished service to the needs of the
Vernon corru:nunity and the people of the County of Los Angeles.
SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and present a
ce-rtified copy thereof to the Honorable r-1ichael D. Antonovich,
Room 869, Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple Street, Los
Angeles, California 90012, to the attention of IJohn Dewar and

1 that thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force
2 and effect.
