RESOLUTION NO. 5218
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT OF A FREEWAY
ACCESS FROM THE LONG BEACH FREEvJAY AT SLAUSON
AVENUE
5 WHEREAS, the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and
6 Bandini Avenue is the location of a center roadway on-ramp to the
7 Long Beach Freeway which experiences heavy traffic almost daily
8 as it is the only available interchange causing congestion in
9 the Cities of Vernon, Maywood and Commerce; and
10 WHEREAS, Slauson Avenue is a major arterial on the
11 County' s ~1:aster Plan of Highways and carries approximately 25,000
12 vehicles per day; and

WHEREAS, the City of Maywood is in the process of
14 initiating action to obtain freeway access from the Long Beach
15 Freeway at Slauson Avenue to relieve the congestion at Atlantic
16 Boulevard and the Long Beach Freeway and to provide needed access
17 at an appropriate location; and
18 WHEREAS, a freeway access at Slauson Avenue would
19 spur interest and sales at the Vernon Industrial Center which
20 will be opening soon as well as save time in deliveries,
21 shipments, travel time for employees, etc. adding up to large
22 financial benefits for businesses in the City of Vernon; and
23 WHEREAS, support of a freeway access from the Long
24 Beach Freeway at Slauson Avenue is in the best interests of the
25 City of Vernon.
26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
27 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
2 expresses its strong support of a freeway access from the Long
3 Beach Freeway at Slauson Avenue.

SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
5 is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to
6 the City of Maywood and any other interested party.
7 SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
8 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and
9 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
