RESOLUTIOB NO. 5377
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON PAYING TRIBUTE TO HARVEY MAITLAND
BROWN ON HIS 99TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Harvey Maitland Bro'(ln. was born on Maroh 25,
l888 in Corralitos, California7 and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown will be celebrating his 99th birthday
on March 25, 19877 and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown together with his father, Peter, anQ
his brothers, Bruce, Murray and Ralph, built and commenced
operating a paperboard mill in 19l2 on Pacific Boulevard just
east of Santa Fe Avenue, along the Santa Fe Railroad traoks in
the City of Vernon7
WHEREAS, said paperboard mill was one of the first
businesses in the City of Vernon7 and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown has been financially interested in
several businesses in the City of Vernon, namely: as a Director
of Vitrefax and as an owner of the Sterling Meat Co., Which was
subsequently sold to SafewaY7 and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown purchased his first pieoe of land in
the City of Vernon from John B. Leonis, one of the founders of
the City of Vernon and the grandfather of Leonis C. Malburg, the
current Mayor of the City of Vernon: and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon in-
dividually, collectively and on behalf of the people of the City
of Vernon wish to extend its congratulations to Harvey Maitland
Brown on his 99th birthday and to pay tribute and express its
gratitude to Harvey Maitland Brown for his distinguished service
1 to the City of Vernon, its inhabitants, and the industry of 'the
2 City of Vernon and wish to invite public notice of his contribu-
3tions and achievements.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCILOr
5 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
7 wishes to take this opportunity to congratulate Harvey Maitland
8 Brown on his 99th birthday.

SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
accomplishments, services and fine personal attributes.
hereby honors Harvey Maitland Brown as one of its outs.tanding
contributors, as a good citizen and as a "family man and public
attention is hereby invited to the outstanding contributions made
by Harvey Mai t1and Brown to the City of Vernon through his many
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City
shall certify to the passage of this resolution and
certified copy thereof to Harvey Maitland Brown who
resides at 3838 Milan Street, San Diego, California 92107
that thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force
effect.
