A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY,COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO
IMPOSE UPON ITSELF THE SAME MEETING REQUIREMENTS
OF THE BROWN ACT THAT ARE APPLICABLE TO LOCAL
LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT
WHEREAS, since 1953 the Brown Act has
requirements on local government regarding public meetings1 and.

WHEREAS, the State Leg is la ture has never applied the

urged the City of Vernon to support their action1 and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los
Angeles, State of California, at its meeting held April 21,
on motion of Supervisor Peter F. Schabarum, urged the
Legislature to impose upon itself the same requirements of
Brown Act that are applicable to local levels of government
WHEREAS, the City COuncil of the City of Vernon
that since the Counties are basically controlled by available
State funding and statutory requirements, there should be a
playing field between how the Legislature meets and makes
sions and how it is done on the local level.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS;
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon urges
the State Legislature to impose upon itself the same meeting
requirements of the Brown Act that are applicable to local levels
of government.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk of the City of
hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Los

resentative of the City of Vernon.
SECTION 3:
That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
shall certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
