A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON REQUESTING MEMBERSHIP IN SISTER
CITIES INTERNATIONAL (SCI) TO ASSIST IN THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF A SISTER CITY PROGRAM IN
THE CITY OF VERNON
6 WHEREAS, SCl is a tilx-exempt, non-profit organization
7 in<r:orporated in .the District of Columbia in 1967, which is
8 dedicated to the goal of furthering global understanding by
9 encouraging and assisting sister city relation$hips between
10 U.S. cOllU1lunities and their citizens and cities throughout the
11 world in order to learn more about each other and to develop
12 lasting and meaningful exchanges of people, ideas and
13 cultures; and
14
WHEREAS, SCI provides a mechanism for U.s. cities to
15 enter into a sister city program by assisting them in.. tne
16 process. of linking with a pity in another country and acts as
17 a coordiniltor and catalyst to encourage various types of
18 sister cities activities and serves as a clearinghouse to
19 gather, analyze and share information, knowledge ilnd
20 technology ; and
21 WHEREAS, scr is a membership organization and the
22 City of Vernon desires to request membership in said organiza-
23 tion to assist in the development of a sister city program in
24 the city.
25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
26 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FO.LLOWS:
27 SEC'fION 1: That the City Council of the City of Ver-
28 non hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained

1 hereinabove .are true and correct.

SJ!:CTION .2: That the City Administrator/City Cler:it IS.
3 hereby authorized to request membership in SCI to assist in
4 the establishment of a sister city program in the City of Ver-
5 non and to pay the requisite membership fee to join said or-
6 ganization.
7 SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon
8 shall certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon
9 and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
