RESOLUTION NO. 5674

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON SUPPORTING THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF AN OFF RAMP ON THE LONG
BEACH FREEWAY (710) AT SLAUSON AVENUE

WHEREAS, the Long Beach Freeway has off ramps on
6
Bandini and Atlantic Boulevards and Florence Avenue which serve
7 the cities of Vernon, Bell, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park,
8 Maywood and Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Slauson Avenue is a maj or thoroughfare
providing service to the above-referenced cities and does not
12
have an off ramp off of the Long Beach Freeway; and
WHEREAS, the six cities believe that the establishment
13 of an off ramp at Slauson Avenue for both eastbound and
14
westbound traffic would relieve traffic congestion and allow the
citizens of these affected cities to freely travel to and from
15
16
17
surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, all affected cities have redevelopment
18 agencies which are redeveloping blighted areas in their
19
20
21
communities,
and said redevelopment activities would be
supported by the establishment of an off ramp from the Long
Beach Freeway on to Slauson Avenue; and
22
WHEREAS, the six cities believe that the establishment
23
of such an off ramp would substantially benefit the six city
24
regions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon
28 hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained

hereinabove are true and correct.

SECTION 2:

hereby requests that CALTRANS consider preparing a study and
provide a copy of said study to the affected six cities
concerning the feasibility of establishing an off ramp on the

Long Beach Freeway at Slauson Avenue.

SECTION 3:
The City Council of the city of Vernon

hereby instructs the City Administrator to send a copy of this
resolution to the Los Angeles Transportation Agency and all
other public agencies whose public responsibility would be

affected by the establishment of an off ramp on the Long Beach
Freeway at Slauson Avenue.
SECTION 4: That the City Administrator be directed to
meet with representatives of the other affected cities to
prepare an appropriate development plan for the establishment of
an off ramp on the Long Beach Freeway at Slauson Avenue.

SECTION 5: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and

thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
