RESOLUTION NO. 5734
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON PROVIDING FOR SALARY,
AUTOMOBILE AND EXPENSE ALLOWANCES FOR
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 1990 AND REPEALING
ALL RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS
NOT CONSISTENT WITH OR IN CONFLICT WITH
THIS RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Vernon, Chapter
9
3.11, provides that the City Council may determine the base
compensation of Council members by resolution adopted by a
majority vote of the members of the Council and that Council
10

12 members shall also receive compensation for actual or
13
anticipated expenses that may be incurred in the performance of
their duties of office; and

WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5641 adopted June 27, 1989
established councilmembers' salaries at $852.00 per month,
automobile allowance at $50.00 per month and reimbursement for
actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of

official duty at $250.00 per month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon

hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained
hereinabove are true and correct.

SECTION 2: The salary of each City council member
shall be increased from its present level of Eight Hundred
Fifty-two Dollars and Zero Cents ($852.00) by the amount of One
Hundred Dollars ($100) for a total monthly compensation of Nine
Hundred Fifty-two Dollars and Zero Cents ($952.00) effective
May 1, 1990.
SECTION 3: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
does hereby find and determine that the actual and necessary
expenses incurred by the City Councilmen of the City of Vernon
in the performance of their official duties is at least equal
to, if not greater than, Three Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero
Cents ($350.00) per month and orders that each member of the
City Council of the City of Vernon receive a monthly expense
allowance of Three Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents
($350.00) per month as reimbursement for actual and necessary
expenses incurred in their duties as members of the City
Council, effective May 1, 1990.
SECTION 4: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
hereby finds that the City Councilmen regularly use their
privately owned or leased vehicles to conduct City business
while in the performance of their duties as Councilmen and that
the City Council of the City of Vernon hereby establishes an
automobile allowance for all City Councilmen who maintain a
privately owned or leased vehicle in the sum of One Hundred
Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($150.00) per month effective
May 1, 1990.

SECTION 5 :
All resolutions, or parts of resolutions
not consistent with or in conflict with this resolution are

hereby repealed to the extent of said inconsistency or conflict.

SECTION 6: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall

certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
