RESOLUTION NO. 5949
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON ESTABLISHING REGULATIONS
FOR MEDICAL WASTE IN THE CITY OF VERNON BY
ADOPTING BY REFERENCE CHAPTER 6. 1 OF THE
CALIFORNIA HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE TITLED
MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT
WHEREAS, section 25031 of the Health and Safety Code of
the State of California provides that a city may, by resolution
or ordinance, implement a medical waste management program in
accordance with Chapter 6.1 (commencing with section 25015) of
Division 20 of the Health and Safety Code respecting medical
waste management; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon finds
and determines that the improper handling and disposal of
medical waste can be hazardous to public health and safety; and
WHEREAS, several medical waste treatment facilities and
several businesses which generate various quantities of medical
waste are located in the City of Vernon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon
hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained
hereinabove are true and correct.
SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
register, permit, inspect and regulate, as appropriate, all
medical waste generating, handling, treatment and disposal
facilities as defined in Chapter 6.1 of Division 20 of the
California Health and Safety Code.

SECTION 3:
That the City Council of the city of
Vernon, in compliance with section 25032 of the Health and
Safety Code of the State of California, notify the Department of
Heal th Services of its election to implement a medical waste
management program in compliance with the Medical Waste
Management Act.
SECTION 4:
That the Director of Health and
Environmental Control of the City of Vernon is hereby directed
to prepare a medical waste management program which complies
wi th the Medical Waste Management Act, including the elements
for such a program set forth by section 25034.3 of the Health
and Safety Code of the State of California.
SECTION 5: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of July, 1991.
