RESOLUTION NO. 6049
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON SUPPORTING LEGISLATION
INTRODUCED IN THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
WHICH WOULD DECLARE ENGLISH TO BE THE
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THE UNITED STATES
WHEREAS, our nation has benefited thoughout its history
from using the common language of English; and
WHEREAS, recognizing English as the official language
of the United States would maintain those benefits; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Times recently has reported
that two elementary school principals who have followed an
"English-first" policy have seen their students from multi-
cultural backgrounds achieve the highest scores for the two
schools in statewide testing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
The City Council of the city of Vernon
hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained
hereinabove are true and correct.
SECTION 2:
The City Council of the City of Vernon
hereby supports the legislation introduced in the 102nd Congress
of the United States, the bills H.R. 123 and S. 434, which would
declare English to be the official language of the United
States.
SECTION 3:
The City council of the City of Vernon
hereby authorizes the Mayor and the City Clerk to communicate
this support to the committees of the Congress which are
considering this legislation.

SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the city of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of February, 1992.
