A RESOLUTION OF TaE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON REVISING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
VEHICLE PURSUIT POLICY TO CONFORM TO VEHICLE
CODE SECTION 17004.7

WHEREAS, in 1980, the Vernon Police Department adopted a
written vehicle Pursuit Policy which was adopted and ratified by
City Council Resolution No. 5884 on February 19, 1991; and
WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code section 17004.7(c) sets

minimum standards for such pOlicies, and it is necessary to revise

the Vernon Police Department Pursuit Policy to conform to such
standards; and
WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code section 17004.7 provides
that a public agency employing peace officers which adopts such a
written policy is immune from liability for civil damages for
personal injury to or death of any person or damage to property
resulting from the collision of a vehicle being pursued by a police

vehicle; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
reviewed the Pursui t POlicy recommended by the Vernon Police
Department and finds that it meets the standards set forth in
California Vehicle Code Section 17004.7(c).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are
true and correct.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
approves the revised Vernon police Department Pursuit POlicy, dated
September 3, 1992, pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 17004.7, a copy

1 of which Pursuit Policy has been presented to the City council
2 concurrently with this resolution, and the City Council hereby
3 orders said Policy to be received and filed by the City Clerk.

SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the city of Vernon shall
5 certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
6 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.

APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 22nd day of september, 1992.
