A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON COMMENDING LARRY E. SPADT
FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY
OF VERNON

WHEREAS, LARRY E. SPADT has been employed by the City
of Vernon since December 16, 1960; and

WHEREAS, said LARRY E. SPADT will retire from the
service of the City of Vernon on October 15, 1992; and
WHEREAS, LARRY E. SPADT was hired by the City of Vernon

as a Firefighter on December 16, 1960; advanced to a Fire
Captain in the Vernon Fire Department on December 30, 1979, thus
bypassing the customary advancement to a Fire Engineer position;
advanced to Battalion Chief on December 28, 1981; appointed
Acting Fire Chief on June 24, 1987 and appointed Fire Chief on
February 15, 1988; and

WHEREAS, LARRY E. SPADT, as Fire Chief, through his
persistent efforts and leadership applied for and received from

Commercial Risk Services, Inc., an affiliate of Insurance
Service Office (I.S.O.), a Class 1 fire rating for the Vernon
Fire Department, a significant achievement providing substantial
benefits to the property owners, inhabitants and workers within
the City of Vernon; and
WHEREAS, LARRY E SPADT, as Fire Chief, was influential

in instituting and administering in 1991 the city's Hazardous
Material Program that included the training and staffing of
fire personnel, and the City'S purchase of its own Haz Mat Unit
and all related equipment in order to effectively respond to

hazardous material incidences; and

WHEREAS, LARRY E. SPADT has faithfully served .the city
3
of Vernon for approximately 32 years, and his loss will be
4
deeply felt by the City of Vernon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
takes this opportunity to commend LARRY E. SPADT for his years
8
of devoted service to the City of Vernon.
SECTION 2: The City council of the City of Vernon
wishes LARRY E. SPADT continued success in whatever endeavors he
may undertake.
SECTION 3: That the city council of the City of Vernon
shall certify to the passage of this resolution and present a
certified copy thereof to LARRY E. SPADT and that thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.

SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and

thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
