A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON APPROVING AN ELECTRONIC MAIL POLICY
FOR THE CITY OF VERNON

WHEREAS, access to the internet and use of electronic
6
mail has become a common feature of business and industry and is
7
8
being used more widely by governmental agencies in the State of
California, nationally, and worldwide; and
9
WHEREAS, the City Administrator has recommended adoption
of a policy which will provide guidance to City departments in the
10
11
use of the internet or electronic mail, but which will also limit
12
such usage to designated employees conducting City business; and
13
WHEREAS, the adoption of an electronic mail policy will
benefit the public welfare and will provide the basis for the
14
15
City'S participation in a modern means of communication.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
17
THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the city of Vernon
19
hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained
20
hereinabove are true and correct.
21
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon
22
hereby approves the Electronic Mail Policy, a copy of which has
23
been submitted concurrently herewith, and the city council hereby
24
orders that said Policy be received and filed by the city Clerk.

SECTION 3: The City Council of the city of Vernon
2 shall certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
3 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
4 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of January, 1997.
