This vehicle would be equipped with all external emergency equipment, and it will include a logo to clearly identify it as a D.A.R.E. vehicle. The visual appeal of the vehicle will help to create a more positive image of the Vernon Police Department and it's participation in the community. It would also provide us with a powerful tool in building on the positive relationships we are developing within the community. It will not be used as a standard patrol vehicle and it will not require much of the standard equipment. This item was included in the budget, and it is hereby recommended that authorization be given to the Purchasing Section to seek formal bids for the purchase of a new mid -size passenger van at an approximate cost of $25,000, (including taxes and supplemental customizing, i.e., D.A.R.E. logos).
