A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 VERNON REAFFIRMING THE AMENDMENT OF RESOLUTION NO.
6687 WHICH ADOPTED A DISCRETIONARY EDUCATIONAL
4 ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

6 WHEREAS, on September 19, 1995, the City Council of the City
7 of Vernon adopted Resolution No. 6687 establishing a Discretionary
8 Assistance Program; and
9 WHEREAS, by Salary Resolution No. 7165 adopted on June 25,
10 1998 and Salary Resolution No. 7359 adopted on June 29, 1999, the City
11 Council of the City of Vernon amended paragraph 8 of said
12 Discretionary Educational Assistance Program adopted by Resolution No.
13 6687; and
14 WHEREAS, the City Clerk has recommended that the amendment
15 to Resolution No. 6687 contained in Salary Resolution Nos. 7165 and
16 7359 be reaffirmed in a separate resolution for purposes of clarity;
17 and
18 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires to
19 reaffirm the amendment to Resolution No. 6687 contained in Resolution
20 Nos. 7165 and 7359 and to clarify that the Program is only available
21 for classes that eligible employees enroll in after the completion of
22 their evaluation period.
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
24 CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
25 SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
26 finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
27 and correct.
28 SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby

reaffirms its amendment of Paragraph 8 of the Discretionary
Educational Assistance Program adopted by Resolution No. 6687 to read
as follows:
118. Reimbursement is .limited to Two Thousand
Dollars ($2,000) per fiscal year. Such limitation
was based upon tuition, fees and textbooks required
by the California State University System (Los
Angeles State University for the quarter system and
Long Beach State University for the semester
system). Reimbursement shall also be limited to
classes that are enrolled in after the completion
of the employee's evaluation period."
SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
