RESOLUTION NO. 7697
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE BOY SCOUTS OF
AMERICA
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America was founded on February 8,
11910; and
WHEREAS, the scout oath is "ON MY HONOR I WILL DO MY BEST TO
DO MY DUTY TO GOD AND MY COUNTRY, AND OBEY THE SCOUT LAW, TO HELP OTHER
PEOPLE AT ALL TIMES, TO KEEP MYSELF PHYSICALLY FIT, MENTALLY AWAKE, AND
AMORALLY STRAIGHT;" and
WHEREAS, the ideals of scouting are timeless, they are
citizenship, character, service, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, scouting has trained generations of young Americans
in these outstanding attributes; and
WHEREAS, after ninety-one (91) years of scouting, the Boy
Scout principles have remained the same; and
WHEREAS, the current registration in the Boy Scouts is
approximately 6.2 million members-5 million youth and 1.2 million adult,

volunteers; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the regular scouting program, the Boy
Scouts of America offer an after school program to provide inner city
youth with the scouting program and shows them the difference between
drugs and gangs and the ideals of scouting; and
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America offer a program called
"Learning for Life," which is a non-profit corporation based in the
District of Columbia, which was incorporated in 1991 to provide schools'.

for youth in the case of business or governmental agencies, such as
police departments; and
WHEREAS, "Learning for Life" makes available career -oriented
program materials and support, and allows businesses or governmental
agencies to use the program material according to its own criteria and
operation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
_SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby finds
and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true and
correct.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
expresses its support for the Boy Scouts of America and wishes the Boy
Scouts of America continued success with its programs for the youth of
this country.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall certify
to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of January, 2001.
