RESOLUTION NO. 7932
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF ONE DODGE DAKOTA
SPORT TRUCK BY JOINING ON THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA,
DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES, PROCUREMENT
DIVISION, CONTRACT NO. 1-02-23-20 AWARDED TO LASHER
AUTO CENTER
WHEREAS, the Community Services & Water Department is
Irequesting the purchase of one (1) 2002 Dodge Dakota sport truck for
use by the project engineer performing inspections to replace an older
vehicle needing increased maintenance due to wear and tear; and
WHEREAS, local agencies are sometimes offered the
(opportunity to join with federal, state or county agencies in bid
lawards to reap the same monetary benefit; and
WHEREAS, the State of California, Department of General
lServices, Procurement Division, sent out a list of vehicles available
Ifor purchase pursuant to Public Contract Code Section 10324; and
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon has been given the opportunity
to purchase one (1) 2002 Dodge Dakota truck, with additional sports
plus options including, but not limited to, a 4.7 L V-8 engine, power
locks, power windows, power mirror and sliding rear window from Lasher
Auto Center by participating in the State of California, Department of
General Services, Procurement Division's awarded vehicle Contract No.
1-02-23-20; and
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2002, the Finance Committee
recommended that the City Council approve the recommendation of Bruce
V. Malkenhorst, Director of Finance, dated March 7, 2002, that one (1)
2002 Dodge Dakota sport truck be purchased from Lasher Auto Center at
an approximate cost of Seventeen Thousand Five Hundred Seventeen

Dollars and Thirty -Two Cents ($17,517.32) (includes tax, delivery and
tire charges).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
and correct.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
authorizes the Purchasing Agent, or his designee, to purchase one (1)
new 2002 Dodge Dakota sport truck from Lasher Auto Center by issuance
of a purchase order and authorizes the Purchasing Agent, or his
designee, to sign and deliver any and all documents necessary in
connection therewith for, and on behalf of, the City of Vernon.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of March, 2002.

The Community Services and Water Department is requesting to purchase
one (1) 2002 Dodge Dakota sport truck to be used by the project
engineer to perform inspections on public -works projects. This truck
is needed to replace an existing 1992 Chevrolet Caprice with current
mileage of 96,000 which is constantly breaking -down and will be kept
as a "pool" vehicle. The department will piggyback on State Contract
No. 1-02-23-20 awarded by the State of California Department of
General Services Procurement Division to Lasher Auto Center for this
purchase at a contract fee of 1% of the cost of the vehicle. Funds
were budgeted for this purchase and it is hereby recommended that a
purchase order be issued to Lasher Auto Center for the purchase of the
2002 Dodge Dakota at an approximate cost of $17,517.32.

Attached for your approval is requisition #1502. The Community Services
Department is requesting to purchase (1) 2002 DODGE DAKOTA, WB SPORT
for use by Vince Rodriguez (Project Engineer). Mr. Rodriguez currently performs
inspections on the Gas Distribution System, the Alameda Corridor Projects and
ether public works projects. Ina memo from Kevin Wilson (Director of
Community Services & Water) dated January 7, 2002 (see attached), you were
advised that his current city vehicle constantly breaks down. This vehicle is a 1992
Chevr6let:Caprice (a converted Police vehicle) with current mileage of 96,000. This
vehicle will continue to be used as a "pool" vehicle.
