The Police Department is requesting to purchase two (2) 2003 Ford
Crown Victoria Sedans to replace Unit Nos. 36 and 37 and one (1) shop
manual for the Patrol Division. These vehicles are needed to replace
existing units that are approximately six (6) years old with over
90,000 miles and that will be kept as "pool" vehicles. Downtown Ford
Sales is allowing the City to buy -off State Contract No. 1-01-23-14
awarded by the State of California Department of General Services
Procurement Division, which lapsed on April 2002. The approximate
cost for the two units is $55,486.06; funds were budgeted for the
amount of $54,600; however, the additional funds necessary are
available. It is hereby recommended that a purchase order be issued
to Downtown Ford Sales for the purchase of two 2003 Ford Crown
Victoria Sedans at an approximate cost of $55,486.06.
Very truly yours,

Re: POLICE DEPARTMENT REQUISITION #1851
Attached for your approval is requisition #1851. The Police Department is
requesting to purchase (2) 2003 FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE SEDANS
and (1) SHOP MANUAL for the Patrol Division. The requested units are replacing
units #36 and #37. The existing units are approximately (6) years old with over
90000 miles. These units will be converted into pool cars. The existing internal
communication and safety equipment in these vehicles will be extracted, and placed
int "the requested units.
The dealer for this purchase is Downtown Ford Sales. The state contract #1-01-23-
14 lapsed as of April, 2002, however, this dealership is allowing the city to buy off
the contrabt. The vendor offered four purchase packages. The department has
selected Group 2 with the (4) doors.
The approximate cost is $55,486.06 (cost includes sales tax and delivery costs).
Funds were specifically budgeted in the amount of $54,600 for this purchase,
however, Lt. Steve Towles advised Purchasing that adequate funds are available to
cover the additional cost.
