Resolution No. 8013it 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 8013 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 6687 WHICH ADOPTED A DISCRETIONARY EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM WHEREAS, on September 19, 1995, the City Council of the City of Vernon adopted Resolution No. 6687, as modified by Resolution Nos. 7165, 7359 and 7558 adopted on June 25, 1998, June 29, 1999 and June 27, 2000, respectively, establishing a Discretionary Educational Assistance Program; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that continuing education by City employees not only personally benefits those employees taking courses but also enhances job performance which benefits the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires to amend Resolution No. 6687 to increase the tuition reimbursement for all City employees to $2,200 per fiscal year because of the continuing fee increases of state universities and colleges. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true and correct. SECTION 2: Effective July 1, 2002, the City Council of the City of Vernon hereby amends Paragraph 8 of the Discretionary Educational Assistance Program adopted by Resolution No. 6687, as modified by Resolution Nos. 7165, 7359 and 7558, to read as follows: J 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 "8. Reimbursement is limited to Two Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($2,200) per fiscal year. Such limitation was based upon tuition, fees and textbooks required by the California State University System (Los Angeles State University for the quarter system and Long Beach State University for the semester system). Reimbursement shall also be limited to classes that are enrolled in after the completion of the employee's evaluation period." SECTION 3: The provisions of Resolution Nos. 6687, 7165, 7359 and 7558 not consistent with or in conflict with this resolution are hereby repealed; in all other respects, Resolution No. 6687, as amended by Resolution Nos. 7165, 7359 and 7558, shall remain in full force and effect. SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
