RESOLUTION NO. 8091
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A
ONE-YEAR EXTENSION OF CONTRACT NO. 553 (OCTOBER 27,
2002-OCTOBER 26, 2003) BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF
VERNON AND PAVING CONTRACTORS, INC.
WHEREAS, Contract No. 553, Traffic Pavement Striping 1999
2000 Agreement, was awarded to Paving Contractors, Inc,, by Resolution
No. 7374 on July 13, 1999, for a term of one year; and
WHEREAS; said contract provides for annual cost increases
based on the consumer price index and for annual extensions thereof;
and
WHEREAS, an extension of the contract was previously approved
by Resolution No. 7843 on October 3, 2001, and the Consumer Price Index
adjustment for that period was included; and
WHEREAS, Contract No. 553 will expire on October 26, 2002,
unless extended, and Paving Contractors, Inc. has requested a one-year
extension of said contract with a cost increase; and
WHEREAS, by letter dated October 16, 2002, Bruce V.
Malkenhorst, City Administrator/City Clerk has recommended that said
contract be extended to October 27, 2003, and has verified that Paving
Contractors, Inc. is eligible for an increase based on the consumer
price index.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION l: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
and correct,

SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
approves the Extension of Contract No. 553, October 27, 2002-
October 26, 2003, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and
made a part hereof.
SECTION 3 The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
authorizes the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute the Extension of
Contract No. 553 for, and on behalf of, the City of Vernon.
SECTION 4: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
directs the City Clerk, or his designee, to send one fully executed
Agreement to:
Paving Contractors, Inc.

Long Beach, CA 90806-0618
SECTION 5: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall certify
to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and thereafter the

Contract No. 553, Traffic Pavement Striping 1999-2000,
entered into by and between the City of Vernon and Paving Contractors,
Inc., ("PCI") is hereby extended for a one (1) year period from
H October 27, 2002 to October 26, 2003, according to the section on
"Contract Extension" in the Special Provisions of said Contract.
According to the section on "Compensation" in the Special
Provisions of said Contract, PCI is granted a price adjustment in
accordance with the Consumer Price Index ("CPI") for January 1 to
December 31, 2002, at seventy-five percent (75%) of such CPI published
November 1, 2002, which adjustment is calculated as follows: (dollar
amount of current rate)x(November 1, 2002 CPI x 75o)=dollar amount of new rate.
In all other respects, the terms and conditions of Contract
No. 553, Traffic Pavement Striping 1999-2000, shall remain in full
force and effect.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have caused this
Extension to be executed as of this ,�>J day of October, 2002, in the
City of Vernon, California.

Contract 553, Traffic Pavement Striping Agreement, with PCI LTD.,
expires on October 26, 2002. Under Section 16 of the Special
Provisions, the contract provides for an extension by mutual agreement
and under Section 12 of he same, they are eligible for a Consumer
Price Index (CPI) increase of 75% of the CPI as published November 1,
2002. The present CPI is 2.2%; therefore, the present monthly
contract amount of $31,250.68 will increase to approximately
$31,766.31.
This has been reviewed by the Director of Community Services arid Water
Department and the City Attorney and it is hereby recommended that
Contract 553 be extended through October 27, 2003.

Traffic Pavement Striping Contract 553, with PCI LTD. expires on October 26, 2002. The
contract provides for extension by mutual agreement under the section Contract Extension of the

contract for one more year.
