Resolution No. 83252 3 4 5 6 7 8' 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 8325 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON AUTHORIZING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PROCEED WITH APPLICATION(S) FOR 2004 DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY GRANTS WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security, Office for Domestic Preparedness, is offering 2004 Department of Homeland Security Grants to local agencies for the acquisition of equipment; and WHEREAS, the grant applications are processed in conjunction with state guidelines and are reviewed by the Los Angeles County Operational Areas Grant Task Force; and WHEREAS, the purchase of equipment for the Vernon Fire and Police Departments to enhance the capability to respond to threats and incidents of domestic terrorism would enhance the services provided to citizens, residents, businesses and employees in Vernon and neighboring communities; and WHEREAS, in order to receive funding under the 2004 Homeland Security Grants, the Fire Department must be authorized to apply for the grants on behalf of the City; and WHEREAS, by letter dated November 25, 2003, Bruce V. Malkenhorst, City Administrator/City Clerk, recommended that the Fire Department be authorized to submit the application(s) for the 2004 Department of Homeland Security Grants, contingent upon full review of the grant requirements by the necessary agencies. .
