RESOLUTION NO. 8494
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF A
PURCHASE ORDER TO MIKE PRLICH & SONS, INC. FOR
PERFORMANCE OF EMERGENCY SEWER REPAIRS AND
REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 8433
WHEREAS, on April 21, 2004, the City Council of the City of
Vernon adopted Resolution No. 8433 approving and ratifying the issuance
of a purchase order to A J General Engineering Contractors, Inc. to
perform emergency sewer repairs based upon the discovery that a section
of pipe on 55th Street was broken and needed repair and the manhole on
51st Street was found to have a broken section of pipe and deteriorated
base; and
WHEREAS, in order to meet the urgent need for the sewer
repairs to prevent further damage and potential collapse, the Director
of Community Services & Water authorized A J General Engineering
Contractors, Inc. to proceed to perform the sewer manhole replacement
and sewer line repair; however, A J General Engineering Contractors,
Inc. was unable to provide adequate insurance coverage pursuant to City
requirements; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Community Services & Water deemed
the quotation from Mike Prlich & Sons, Inc. to be the next lowest
quotation meeting the Department's specifications and requirements
based upon its original quote of Forty -Five Thousand Nine Hundred
Fourteen Dollars and No Cents ($45,914.00), plus One Thousand One
Hundred Forty -Seven Dollars and Eighty -Five Cents ($1,147.85)
representing increased labor costs from the time of their initial bid
of March 29, 2004,.for a total of Forty -Seven Thousand Sixty -One
1 Dollars and Eight -Five Cents ($47,061.85); and
2 WHEREAS, on July 13, 2004, the Finance Committee considered
3 the recommendation of Bruce V. Malkenhorst, Director of Finance, dated
4 July 8, 2004 that a purchase order be issued to Mike Prlich & Sons,
5 Inc. to perform the emergency sewer repairs and Resolution No. 8433 be
6 repealed; and
7 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
8 determined that, pursuant to the provisions of subsection (b) (4) of
9 Section 2.27 of the Vernon City Code, it is in the public interest and
10 necessity to issue a purchase order to Mike Prlich & Sons, Inc.
11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
12 CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
13 SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
14 finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
15 and correct.
16 SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
17 repeals Resolution No. 8433.
18 SECTION 3: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
19 authorizes the issuance of a Purchase Order to Mike Prlich & Sons,
20 Inc. for the sum of $47,061.85 plus any applicable taxes, as payment
21 in full.

SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
