A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF ONE 2005
CHEVROLET PICKUP TRUCK BY JOINING ON THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES,
PROCUREMENT DIVISION, CONTRACT NO. 1-05-23-20
AWARDED TO MIATA CHEVROLET AND AUTHORIZING THE
TERMINATION OF THE LEASE AGREEMENT WITH FORD MOTOR
CREDIT COMPANY

WHEREAS, the State of California, Department of General
Services,
Procurement Division, has entered into Contract No. 1-05-23-

20 with Miata Chevrolet for the provision of special service vehicles
to local agencies; and
13
WHEREAS, on October 9, 2002, the City Council of the City of
Vernon adopted Resolution No. 8071 approving a lease with Ford Motor
14
15
Credit Company for three electric pickup trucks (1999 EV Ranger
vehicles); and
16
17
WHEREAS, the leasing of the three electric vehicles is for a
period of three (3) years with an option for early termination based
18
19
upon 10 days written notice to terminate; and
20
WHEREAS, there is no longer a State mandate requiring
21
22
municipalities to provide a percentage of clean air fuel vehicles in
their fleet, there are no incentives or other funding available from
23
24
State agencies for zero emission vehicles, Ford is no longer
manufacturing zero emission vehicles, and there is a concern about the
25
26
future availability of parts as the City's electric vehicles are over
27
28
five (5) years old; and
WHEREAS, the Light & Power Department is requesting that the
City terminate the lease of one of the Ford Ranger electric vehicles
and purchase one (1) 2005 Chevrolet Mini Utility 4-Wheel.Drive
1 Pickup Truck for use by Bulk Power Resources/Gas staff members; and
2 WHEREAS, the City of Vernon has been given the opportunity
3 to purchase one (1) 2005 Chevrolet Mini Utility 4-Wheel Drive Mini
4 Pickup Truck from Miata Chevrolet under Contract No. 1-05-23-20; and
5 WHEREAS, on January 19, 2005, the Finance Committee
6 considered the recommendation of Bruce V. Malkenhorst, Director of
7 Finance, dated January 6, 2005, that one (1) 2005 Chevrolet Mini
8 Utility 4-Wheel Drive Pickup Truck be purchased from Miata Chevrolet
9 at an approximate cost of Nineteen Thousand Nine Hundred Ten Dollars
10 and Forty-Three Cents ($19,910.43) (includes sales tax and delivery
11 charges) and the lease with Ford Motor Credit Company be terminated
12 respecting one of the electric vehicles.
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
14 CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
15 SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
16 finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
17 and correct.
18 SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
19 authorizes the Purchasing Agent, or his designee, to purchase one (1)
20 2005 Chevrolet Mini Utility 4-Wheel Drive Pickup Truck from Miata
21 Chevrolet by issuance of a purchase order and authorizes the
22 Purchasing Agent, or his designee, to sign and deliver any and all
23 documents necessary in connection therewith for, and on behalf of, the
24 City of Vernon.
25 SECTION 3: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
26 authorizes the Purchasing Agent, or his designee, to provide written
27 notice to Ford Motor Credit Company of the City's intent to terminate
28 the lease respecting one (1) electric vehicle.

SECTION 4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
2 certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
3 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
