RESOLUTION NO, 9100
COMMENDING AND HONORING R.W. "BILL" EDWARDS,
FORMER GENERAL MANAGER OF THE LOS ANGELES
JUNCTION RAILWAY, IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICE
AND SUPPORT OF THE VERNON COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Junction Railway (the "Railway"), a wholly -owned subsidiary of the
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and its predecessor, the Santa Fe Railway, is a switching railroad
operating in the Los Angeles area that provides switching services on 64 miles of track, primarily in the
industrial areas in and around the City of Vernon; and
WHEREAS, R. W. "Bill" Edwards ("Bill"), General Manager of the Railway, retired from the
Railway on February 1, 2006, after approximately 47 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, during his career with the Railway, Bill served in various positions from his date of
hire on December 22, 1958, and he served as the Railway's General Manager from 2000 until his date of
retirement in 2006; and
WHEREAS, under Bill's supervision, the Railway maintained its tracks in good condition; and
WHEREAS, Bill worked diligently with the City of Vernon to create a cooperative relationship by
assisting and coordinating his crews to accommodate the City's capital projects so as not to disrupt traffic;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon wishes to commend Bill for his high personal dedication and
outstanding service to the Vernon community and wishes to invite recognition of his contributions and
achievements and acknowledge him for his outstanding leadership to the City of Vernon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby finds and determines that the
recitals contained hereinabove are true and correct.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon takes this opportunity to commend and
honor R. W. "Bill" Edwards in recognition of his many years of service and support of the Vernon
community and wishes him continued success in whatever endeavors he may undertake.
SECTION 3: The City Council of the City of Vernon shall certify the passage of this resolution
and present a copy thereof to R.W. "Bill" Edwards and that thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.

Bill Edwards of the Los Angeles Junction Railway Company recently retired. Mr. Edwards has always
been a friend and ally to the City of Vernon. Under his supervision, Los Angeles Junction Railway Company
maintained its tracks in good condition and he assisted and coordinated his crews to accommodate the City's
capital projects whenever and however best suited the situation often working nights and weekends so as not to
disrupt traffic.
If possible, I think it would be good P.R. to adopt a resolution commending Bill on his years of service
with the railroad and his cooperative spirit to get the job done.
