RESOLUTION NO. 9780
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON IN SUPPORT OF THE "SHUT YOUR TAP" WATER
CONSERVATION CAMPAIGN OF THE CENTRAL BASIN
MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT
WHEREAS, clean and sustainable water resources are vital to
the City of Vernon environment, economy and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, on June 4, 2008, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
signed an Executive Order declaring a water drought in California and
encouraging water agencies and cities to promote water conservation
measures at the local level; and
WHEREAS, with a service area that includes 24 cities and
unincorporated County areas, the Central Basin Municipal Water
District ("Central Basin") is committed to meeting the needs of more
than 2 million residents; and
WHEREAS, in response to the Governor's Executive Order, the
Central Basin has developed and recommended a "Shut Your Tap" water
conservation campaign (the "Campaign"), an innovative and
comprehensive pro -active water conservation campaign for use of cities
to minimize the negative impacts of such water shortages and instill a
lasting culture of water efficiency in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Central Basin is requesting the City's support
of their Campaign and is asking the City to join a regional effort to
implement the Campaign in coordination with the Central Basin and
other stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Campaign is to encourage residents
Ito take an active role in the current water conservation movement, as
well as to support local areas currently taking an aggressive approach

to helping their residents become smarter water users; and
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon thanks Central Basin for their
continued efforts in making water conservation a priority during this
critical time of a statewide water shortage; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires to
support the Campaign of the Central Basin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
and correct.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
expresses its support of expanding water conservation throughout
Southern California, and its support of the Central Basin's Campaign.
SECTION 3: The City Council of the City of Vernon
encourages City residents to "Shut Your Tap" to ensure that we never
run out of water —our most vital resource.
SECTION 4: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
directs the City Clerk, or her designee, to send a copy of this
Resolution to:

1 SECTION 5: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
2 certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and thereafter
