RESOLUTION NO. 9782
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 9641 REGARDING THE
PAYMENT OF PREMIUMS FOR MEDICAL -DENTAL INSURANCE
FOR CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF RETIRED EMPLOYEES DURING
THE 2008-2009 FISCAL YEAR
WHEREAS, on June 16, 2008, the City Council of the City of
Vernon adopted Resolution No. 9641 approving the continued payment of
premiums for medical -dental insurance for certain categories of
retired employees during the 2008-2009 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, City staff have recommended that the City clarify
Section 2D of Resolution No. 9641 to require a minimum of ten (10)
years of continuous uninterrupted service with the City before retired
employees can pay the premiums for medical -dental insurance up to the
age of sixty-five (65); and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires to
amend Section 2D of Resolution No. 9641 to clarify said section.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
finds and determines that the recitals contained hereinabove are true
and correct.
SECTION 2: Effective December�l, 2008, the City Council of
the City of Vernon hereby amends subsection D of Section 2 of
Resolution No. 9641 as follows:
D. All retired employees, with a minimum
of ten (10) years of continuous
uninterrupted service at the City, may
pay the premiums for medical -dental
2 insurance up to the age of sixty-five
3 (65) after which Medicare will become
4 the primary insurance carrier and
5 further may purchase supplemental
6 insurance to Medicare thereafter.
7 SECTION 3: The provisions of Resolution No. 9641 not
8 consistent with or in conflict with this Resolution are hereby
9 repealed; in all other respects, Resolution No. 9641 shall remain in
10 full force and effect.
11 SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
12 certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
13 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
14 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 1't day of December, 2008.
