SUBJECT: Permission to Seek Request for Proposals for the Purchase of a 2009 Ford F-150
Crew Cab Truck
The Department of Community Services and Water is seeking permission to issue Request for
Proposals (RFP) to selected Ford dealerships to facilitate the purchase of a new 2009 Ford F-150 Crew Cab
Pickup Truck. The proposed truck will be used by the Water and Street Foreman who currently drives a Ford F-
250 Pickup Truck which is much too large for the type of work the Foreman performs on a daily basis. In order
to make better use of our resources, the F-250 will be assigned to the Water Production Division where its large
carrying capacity can be used to haul and transport large equipment and materials. The Foreman's duties are
typically relegated to field inspections and customer inquiries.
The Deparhnent did spend considerable time looking at various brands and types of trucks that would
be compatible for the operational use the proposed truck would be subjected to. The Ford F-150 appears to meet
the above-mentioned criteria in terms of functionality and practicality.
A Staff Report has been attached recommending that the City Council approve the request to issue
RFP's for the purchase of a new 2009 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck at the May 18, 2009 meeting.

STAFF REPORT
COMMUNITY SERVICES & WATER DEPARTMENT
DATE: May 19, 2009
TO: Mayor and City Council
C
FROM: Samuel Kevin Wilson, Director of Community Services and Water
RE: Ford F-150 -Request for Proposal
The Department of Community Services and Water (Department) is seeking permission to send
Request for Proposals (RFP) to selected Ford dealerships in order to purchase a new 2009 Ford F-150
Crew Cab Pickup Truck. The Department evaluated different types of trucks and determined that the F-
150 is best suited for the Deparhnent's needs in terms of safety, quality, performance, and
standardization.
The F-150 will be used by the Water and Street Foreman to deliver parts and materials as well as
to respond to customer inquires. The F-150 is large enough to carry an assortment of parts and materials
and, at the same time, nimble enough to easily negotiate traffic and is reasonably fuel efficient. It is
important that the Public Works Crews have vehicles that provide for modern safety features and
operational efficiency. In addition, the F-150 will allow for a more productive use of available resources.
It is my recommendation that the City Council approve the request to issue RFP's for the
purchase of a new 2009 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck at the May 18, 2009 meeting. Thank you.
