A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON COMMENDING
GARY B. SAWYER FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF VERNON
WHEREAS, GARY B. SAWYER ("Sawyer") has been employed by the City of Vernon since
April 1, 1984, in the Community Services & Water Department; and
WHEREAS, Sawyer retired from the service of the City of Vernon effective July 28, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Sawyer was hired by the City of Vernon as a Utilityman V in the Street Division of the
Community Services & Water Department on April 1, 1984; and
WHEREAS, during the course of his employment with the City of Vernon, Sawyer was reclassified to
the position of Utilityman IV on July 3, 1988, advanced to the position of Utilityman III on July 2, 1989, and
was promoted to the position of Utilityman II on July 1, 1990; and
WHEREAS, during Sawyer's approximately25 years of service, he was the recipient of the Level 1
SPIRITS award for the year May 1994 to May 1995, as well as the 2008 Employee of the Year award for the
Community Services & Water Department; and
WHEREAS, the CEO of Lift -It Manufacturing Company commended him by letter dated April 21, 2007,
for his spirit, civic pride and proud sense of customer service; and
WHEREAS, Sawyer has been an asset to the Community Services & Water Department during his 25
years of faithful service to the City of Vernon and the loss of his contributions and achievements will be deeply
felt by the City of Vemon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby takes this opportunity to commend Gary
B. Sawyer for his many years of devoted service to the City of Vernon.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon wishes Gary B. Sawyer continued success in
whatever endeavors he may undertake.
SECIIQN 3: The City Clerk of the Cityof Vernon shall certify to the passage, approval and adoption
of this resolution, present a copy thereof to Gary B. Sawyer and the City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall cause
this resolution and her certification to be entered in the Book of Resolutions of the Council of this City.

RE: GARY S. SAWYER
As you may recall at the July 27, 2009 City Council meeting the resignation of Gary Sawyer was
approved by City Council.
Gary was hired by the City on April 1, 1984 in the Community Services Department as a
Utilityman V in the Street Division. On July 3, 1988 he was reclassified to a Utilityman IV, step 4. Due
to the restructuring of the department, on July 2, 1989 Gary was reclassified to a Utilityman 111, step 1.
On July 1, 1990 Gary was again reclassified to a Utilityman 11, step 4.
Some of Gary's notable accomplishments consist of receiving the Level 1 SPIRITS award for the
year May 1994 - May 1995. A letter from Lift -It Manufacturing Company was received commending
Gary for his spirit and civic pride and proud sense of customer service. Moreover, Gary was the recipient
of the 2008 Employee of the Year award for the Community Services & Water Department.
Regrettably, due to medical purposes Gary's last day on the job was June 10, 2008. Since then
Gary went on leave until July 28, 2009 when he resigned for retirement purposes.
For these reasons, it is requested that a resolution be approved by City Council for Gary's many
years of service.
